Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath has announced the courts will be expanded, with funding for two more judges to improve the delivery of justice in Queensland.
An extra Supreme Court Justice and an extra District Court Judge have been funded and will be appointed in the near future.
“Queensland has an exceptionally efficient and economic justice system,” Mrs D’Ath said.
“But we recognise that extra judges will enhance the justice system’s ability to deal with matters in a timely way, promoting efficiency and providing certainty for all involved.
“There are always elements outside a court’s control – availability of witnesses, for example, can lead to delays – but we know we can improve the delivery of justice to Queenslanders by providing these extra positions,” Mrs
“Having two extra judges in the system will also enable more circuits to regional centres, and it will mean civil matters can be dealt with more efficiently.
“Court dealings are both necessary and traumatic for victims of crime. We hope this extra funding will mean they see criminals face the consequences sooner,” Mrs D’Ath said.
The Judiciary Appointments Advisory Panel process will begin shortly.
