“I do” want a beautiful wedding ceremony

The panoramic wedding ceremony rooms situated high above Brisbane city at the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (RBDM) have encouraged a big spike in registry nuptials.

After moving to the new premises at the end of 2016, the registry experienced an eight per cent increase in weddings over the first 12 months.

As word has spread of the stunning views from the foothills to Moreton Bay, there has been a 20 per cent increase in the first seven months of 2018.

RDBM are now putting on Ceremony Rooms Showcase evenings, where interested couples get full access to view all the amenities available to them. The next is on Thursday 20 September.

“We’re very pleased that the new ceremony rooms and accompanying facilities have been so well received,” Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath said.

“It’s clear that more couples are seeing the registry as the ideal setting for their special day.

“A registry wedding has always been an affordable way to get married in Brisbane, but now it can be something even more special.

“A lot of time and consideration went into planning the design of the new premises when RBDM became aware that it would have to move, and those efforts have been rewarded.

“The really good thing about it all was that the new premises came at no extra cost to Government.”

After spending 11 years on George Street, the registry needed to find a new home because of the demolition work required for the construction of the Queen’s Wharf precinct.

“There was a lovely atmosphere at the previous registry ceremony room, but the new premises have a fabulous outlook, and have taken the service that we provide to a whole new level,” Registrar-General David John said.

“We had more than 200 registry weddings in a month for the first time in May – and May is not traditionally one of our ‘big’ months – so we must be doing something right,” he said.

“The ceremony rooms cater for up to 50 guests, have private dressing rooms, access to amazing photo locations and world class restaurants, hotels and bars on the doorstep.”

A registry wedding costs between $344 and $588 and includes the room hire, celebrant and ceremony.

The Ceremony Rooms Showcase takes place on 20 September from 4.30–6.00 pm on Level 32, 180 Ann Street and interested couples are encouraged to RSVP at www.qld.gov.au/rbdmevents
