Better Brisbane–Beenleigh Road a step closer

Design is now underway on upgrades to two intersections on Brisbane–Beenleigh Road (Kingston Road) thanks to an $11.2 million commitment from the Palaszczuk Government.

Member for Woodridge Cameron Dick said Kingston Road was a major thoroughfare carrying more than 31,000 vehicles a day.

“Motorists travelling on this road are all too aware of the congestion that can occur, and that’s why we are taking action,” Mr Dick said.

“Instead of spending time with family, motorists are experiencing queueing and lengthy delays at these intersections during peak times.”

Member for Waterford Shannon Fentiman said the Palaszczuk Government’s investment was a terrific win for the commuters of her electorate.

“Of the $11.2 million allocation, about $7.3 million will be for extra turning lanes at the intersection of Kingston and Compton roads,” Ms Fentiman said.

“This means more vehicles will be able to get through the intersection faster, increasing capacity and efficiency.

“The remaining $3.9 million will go to upgrading the intersection at Kingston Road and Juers Street, which will create a major improvement for traffic flow along both north and south-bound approaches.’’ 

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the improvements would increase traffic flow on the approaches once constructed.

“Design of both intersection upgrades will continue through to early 2019,” Mr Bailey said.

“Once design is complete, early works will be carried out and following this, construction can begin. This is currently expected to commence in 2020”
