How one shared goal brings together the world’s finest investigators, policy makers and researchers

The power of collaboration, commitment and perseverance at an international level and the effect this has on bringing down child abuse networks will be highlighted at the Queensland Police Service’s Youth, Technology and Virtual Communities Conference.

Today, the conference will be opened by the Police Minister Mark Ryan in front of a room of individuals who work with one clear focus – protecting children from harm.

“This conference has quite deservedly earned itself a reputation as an epi-centre for knowledge, information sharing and learning at the highest level.

“It brings together those who go to extraordinary lengths to prevent children from harm and those with a vested interest in hunting down the individuals and networks who commit these appalling crimes,” Minister Ryan said.

The conference is unique in that it serves both ends of the spectrum – shining a light on the work being done to educate the community and prevent these crimes, while giving equal focus to the significant work by law enforcement to seek out, identify and prosecute those who propagate fear with their acts.

Representatives from government and non-government agencies, educators, the legal community and victim advocacy groups will be in attendance for three full days of lectures, presentations and information sharing sessions.

“The conference also provides in-depth insight and case study evaluation to law enforcement officers in dedicated workshops.

“This goes beyond just showcasing the highlights or a ‘how-to’ solve these crimes and looks at the work by psychologists, criminologists and profilers to understand the motivations behind these crimes.

“For many, the thought of seeking out a ‘why’ to these crimes is something we cannot even think to comprehend, but I am forever grateful we have the people who spend their life dedicated to this mission.

“The work performed by the Queensland Police Service and the community of individuals and organisations drawn together by this one single, but powerful goal is to be commended. On behalf of the community, I thank them for their efforts and look forward to a successful conference with dedicated outcomes and learnings,” Minister Ryan said.
