FROM THE DEEP FRYER TO THE DEEP NORTH: WHO HAS QUEENSLAND’S BEST FISH AND CHIPS?

Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries
The Honourable Mark Furner
It doesn’t matter whether it’s a Monday, Wednesday, a Sunday or Friday – it’s always a good time for fish and chips and if you are passionate about your local fish, it pays to try the best.
That’s why Queensland’s Minister for Fisheries Mark Furner MP is encouraging Queenslanders to have their say in the search for Queensland’s best fisho at the Australian Fish and Chip awards
“The Australian Fish and Chip awards are a great opportunity for our local shops to get their name on the national stage,” the Minister said.
“Given our proximity to the freshest and most delicious seafood in the world, it is only right that we have the best fish and chip store as well.”
Mr Furner said unlike the delicious barramundi found at his local fish and chip store, the competition would be tough.
“Right along the Queensland coastline there are sensational examples of fish and chip shops using the freshest Queensland seafood to serve up innovative and tasty fish and chips,” Mr Furner said.
“I encourage everyone to try out different stores in their local area that support the Queensland seafood industry.”
Queensland Seafood Marketers Association President Marshall Betzel said the awards were a chance to recognise some of the great seafood businesses serving Queenslanders.
“Queensland has fantastic seafood – and our members are keen to get it on Queenslander’s plates.”
“Supporting local jobs with a quality feed for the family. That’s a win-win in anyone’s book.
“I urge everyone to get behind their local fisho’s and vote online for the one they think is best.
The Minister today launched the awards at South Bank’s Paperfish, an innovative new fish and chip shop.
To vote for your local fish and chip shop to be named Queensland’s best, head online to www.fishandchipsawards.com.au.
Voting is open until 15 September. The 2018 state award winners will be announced at the Queensland Seafood Awards on 28 September 2018.
