Grant applications now open for more multicultural events and festivals

Queensland will add to its myriad of multicultural festivals and celebrations of cultural diversity with funding applications now open for multicultural events under the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Stirling Hinchliffe said the Palaszczuk Government is proud of its commitment to multiculturalism and the benefits diversity brings to Queensland.

“Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths and we want to see this diversity showcased and reflected in all parts of our State,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“The Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program is always popular, funding both events and projects.

“In 2018 alone, it has supported more than 110 events and 19 projects across the State to be delivered in this financial year.

“The Palaszczuk Government is proud to fund even more in 2019 to foster greater inclusion and intercultural connection. This events round is just the first part of the program that will roll out across this year.

“I particularly encourage new and emerging cultural groups and regional organisations to apply for a grant to help stage an event.”

Funding of $1.4 million will be available under the 2018-19 Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program for events to be held within 2019. This forms part of the increased annual budget of $2 million available for the next three years.

Grants have previously supported events such as Bundaberg’s Chinese New Year Celebrations, Diwali - Indian Festival of Lights, Pasifika Vibes Festival and the Mount Isa Multicultural Festival.

“I expect these grants will assist to establish many more vibrant and inclusive events throughout the State and I am proud to be part of a government that is committed to ensuring we have an inclusive and harmonious society,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

Funding of up to $20,000 is available for approved events to be delivered within 2019. Applications close 14 September 2018.

The latest funding round for events is part of the annual $2 million Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program to support events and projects that promote Queensland’s multiculturalism.
