Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Mark Bailey

What’s in a name? Nominations open to name Toowoomba’s Second Range Crossing

The community will have a chance to name the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing (TSRC) with submissions opening on Monday 30 July.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said there was a lot of local discussion over the past year about the TSRC naming.

“If you have ever wanted to be part of naming sections of a 41km road, here is your chance to put your suggestion forward,” Mr Bailey said.

“Community members can submit recognition names for the 41km road, 800m-long viaduct and the new twin arch bridges which span as part of the New England Highway over the new road.

“School children across the Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba Regional Council areas will also have a chance to submit names for three key bridges.

“Schools will receive information on the nomination process, with names being submitted via principals for consideration.

“The actual toll road will administratively be known as the Warrego Highway in the east and the Gore Highway in the west.

“We have already formally received some suggestions. These will be considered along with the ones we receive during the official submission process, which opens Monday, 30 July, and closes Friday, 21 September.”

Mr Bailey said a committee would be convened in October to review the submissions and make recommendations to the State Government.

“We are looking for names with a unique tie to the local area and significant meaning to the local community,” he said

“Name suggestions could be indigenous, fauna or flora species, local heroes, artists, sports, historical events linked to the area.

“While we are expecting a range of submissions, we suggest nominations along the lines of Rangey McRange Face, Bridgey McBridge Face and Roady McRoad Face to be avoided.

“We will unveil the names at the TSRC official opening next year.”

Clear criteria for submissions and information on each of the pieces of infrastructure which can be named, including links to the submission page are available online at www.tmr.qld.gov.au/NameTSRC.
