Queenslanders benefit from $15 million TAFE training boost

Students and industries across Queensland will benefit from a $15 million boost to TAFE Queensland’s funding as part of the Queensland Government’s TAFE Priority Training Program.

Until 30 June 2020, the TAFE Priority Training Program will provide extra support to eligible Queensland residents by reducing the upfront costs involved with studying a specific range of diploma, certificate IV and certificate III programs.

Minister for Training and Skills Development Shannon Fentiman said the funding boost meant TAFE Queensland could help train and provide pathways for graduates into industries experiencing high demand for skilled workers across the state.

Ms Fentiman said subsidised courses included a certificate IV in community services and diplomas in building design, hospitality management, and travel and tourism.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to providing quality training and increasing job opportunities for Queenslanders,” she said.

“This program will focus on providing Queenslanders with even more access to training in selected qualifications under the Certificate 3 Guarantee and Higher-Level Skills programs, as well as to provide second-chance training for students requiring additional opportunities.

“We know that the jobs are there, especially in the areas of construction, in tourism and in hospitality, and that is why investing in training and skills is so important for the future of our state.

TAFE Queensland Chief Executive Officer Mary Campbell said TAFE Queensland was committed to ensuring all Queenslanders had the access to training and skills they need to achieve great things.

“During the next two years, eligible students will have access to a variety of fee supported courses tailored to meet the demands of industries facing skills shortages,” Mrs Campbell said.

“The program is a fantastic opportunity for students to not only get the qualification they want at a heavily subsidised rate, but also get skilled in areas that need workers most.”
