Attorney-General announces new appointments

Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath today announced the appointments of the Right to Information Commissioner and two community representatives to the Crime Reference Committee of the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).

Mrs D’Ath said the new Right to Information Commissioner Louisa Lynch showed professionalism and expertise during her time acting in the role before being permanently appointed.

“This five-year appointment is a natural step up for Ms Lynch, following on from her previous experience as an Assistant Information Commissioner in the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC),” Mrs D’Ath said.

“The Right to Information Commissioner plays an important role in the OIC.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to open and transparent government and ensuring Queenslanders’ right to access information in the public’s interest.”

The OIC is an independent authority that ensures Queenslanders everywhere can have confidence that the role of the Information Commissioner will be carried out independently, fairly and impartially.

Mrs D’Ath said Ms Lynch had developed extensive legal and government experience over the past 30 years following her graduation from the then Queensland Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Laws.

Mrs D’Ath also announced the appointment of two part-time community representatives to the Crime Reference Committee of the CCC for three years, Alison de Jersey and John Anderson.

Ms de Jersey has previous experience as a part-time community representative of the committee and has been employed by several Parliamentary Committees, including the Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee, the Scrutiny of Legislation Committee and the Parliamentary Crime and Misconduct Committee.

Mr Anderson has previously worked with three tiers of government providing input into the design of a national employment and economic development framework to assist traditional owner groups, Native Title holders, development partners and key organisations such as the Indigenous Chambers of Commerce achieve enduring outcomes.

“I am sure Ms de Jersey and Mr Anderson will bring a great deal of expertise to the table and I congratulate them on their appointments,” Mrs D’Ath said.
