The Honourable Dr Anthony Lynham
Frecklington tweets her support for legislated asset sales
Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington has revealed LNP plans for asset sales.
Energy Minister Anothony Lynham said Ms Frecklington’s plans went even further than the plans outlined by the LNP when she was Campbell Newman’s assistant treasurer.
Dr Lynham said that the opposition leader’s attempt to use twitter justify her party’s flawed policy also revealed the extreme lengths the LNP was prepared to go to.
“We’re now talking about giving the federal government powers to force the sale of state assets,” Dr Lynham said.
“That’s even further than what was being proposed when Campbell Newman was Premier.
“The Queensland Productivity Commission has already pointed out the problems with Deb Frecklington’s plan.
“The QPC warned that the cost of the policy the LNP are trying to implement would be $768 million and it would increase power bills by up to $434 for the average residential customer.
“They also said it would involve cutting large customers from price support which is opposed by regional Councils, Cotton Australia and the Queensland Farmers Federation because it would mean job losses and devastate regional economies.
“Now Deb Frecklington is tweeting her supported for legislated asset sales.”
Dr Lynham said the Palaszczuk Government had a strong record on electricity prices.
“Because we own our assets, we’ve been able to take action,” he said.
“EnergyAustralia, Origin and AGL have announced price cuts of between 1.3 and 3.8 per cent for residential customers in SEQ.
“The QCA has also confirmed that regional households will also see bill reductions of 1.3 per cent from 1 July.
“In stark contrast, electricity prices under the LNP increased 43% and they wanted to sell our assets.
“Tim Nicholls was very quick to rule out asset sales. Deb Frecklington is yet to do it.”
