Bundaberg businesses benefit from ecoBiz program

Bundaberg businesses are taking advantage of cost reduction measures that help improve their sustainability, through the Palaszczuk Government-funded ecoBiz program.

Minister for Environment Leeanne Enoch said in this month’s State Budget the Palaszczuk Government allocated about $4 million to extend the ecoBiz program until 2022 to help local businesses achieve energy and water efficiencies, and waste reduction.

“This means more businesses in Bundaberg will be able to take advantage of this program,” Ms Enoch said.

“It’s wonderful that some Bundaberg businesses are already taking up the challenge to become more eco-efficient.

“Six local businesses have received one-on-one coaching sessions with a locally-based sustainability consultant and an action plan to start saving.

“One Bundaberg business has received an ecoBiz star partnership, having taken practical steps to reduce waste in their business through solar power and LED lighting.”

The ecoBiz program, delivered by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland, gives businesses the tools to reduce their energy and water consumption and waste production.

“It is a win-win for business operators and the environment,” Ms Enoch said.

“The program is helping local businesses understand energy, water and waste costs and teaching them how to save money through sustainability initiatives.

“We hope to see more Bundaberg businesses take advantage of free coaching, training, education and tools to improve their environmental sustainability and lower operating costs.

“This will help businesses save across their power and water bills.

“Since 2013, ecoBiz partners across Queensland have also taken practical steps to reduce waste in their business like ditching disposable coffee cups, reducing food loss and going paperless.

“These quick wins have helped to save 24,785 tonnes of waste from ending up in landfill and support Queensland’s waste and recycling strategy.

“This is a great example of government and industry working together to take some of the pressure off businesses while supporting the environment.

“It is an important partnership to give Queensland businesses a competitive advantage and aligns with the government’s objectives to address waste, climate change and energy costs.”
