Palaszczuk Government spearheads Study Queensland campaign

The Palaszczuk Government has today announced an innovative new Study Queensland campaign to capitalise on rapid growth in the state’s international education industry.

Tourism Industry Development Minister and Ministerial Champion for International Education Kate Jones said Study Queensland’s ‘Start here. Go anywhere’ campaign was devised after months of market research to discover what motivates students to choose Queensland above other states.

“International education is worth more than $4 billion to our economy every year – making this industry our second largest services export after tourism,” she said.

“More students from across the globe are choosing to travel to Queensland every year and our international education industry has grown by around 12 per cent in the last year.

“But we know we can do more to support the student experience and ensure sustained growth in the future. This campaign is all about capitalising on our great foundation to increase our share of the international education market.

“International education currently supports around 20,000 jobs across the state. With this new campaign, we hope to grow this industry to support 25,000 jobs by 2026.

“That’s why we’re investing more than $25 million in this space to grow our international education sector.”

The launch of the Study Queensland campaign coincides today with the announcement of 13 new international education consortia projects across the state with more than $700,000 in funding from the Palaszczuk Government.

“Today I’m also announcing a series of international education consortia projects funded by the government to improve the student experience in our state,” Ms Jones said.

“This includes funding to ensure the future of the Brisbane Student Hub until 2020 as well as an initiative to promote Queensland in South Korea where the government is motivated to send students overseas to reduce youth unemployment in the southeast Asian powerhouse.”

Ms Jones said Study Queensland’s ‘Start here. Go anywhere’ campaign would target growing student markets across the globe, particularly those in southeast Asia.

“We’ve seen record numbers of student enrolments from China and India in recent years. That’s why these markets are an important part of our new communications strategy,” she said.

“This campaign sells the great opportunities afforded international students in Queensland – no matter what they hope to achieve in their careers, Queensland is the place to make it happen.”
