$40 million infrastructure boost to pay community dividends

The Palaszczuk Government is continuing to invest in Queensland’s high-growth regional centres and emerging urban communities with $40 million to be invested in economy-building infrastructure.

Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said the $40 million Growth Area and Regional Infrastructure Investment Fundwould go towards infrastructure that improved liveability for Queenslanders in outer urban and regional areas.

“The program will initially focus on pilots in areas that are experiencing or responding to rapid growth,” Mr Dick said.

“We are actively planning for the future by providing $40 million over two years to accelerate new or upgrade existing infrastructure.

“We will be inviting Queensland Government departments to nominate projects for investment that address the needs of these growing communities with infrastructure essential to support their continued growth.

“Nominations will then be prioritised to see the best value from this investment.

“This is another example of our infrastructure budget leading and supporting growth and productivity throughout Queensland.

“The Growth Area and Regional Infrastructure Investment Fundwill continue to support implementation of the State Infrastructure Plan and regional plans, including ShapingSEQ.

“It also complements the $30 million Maturing the Infrastructure Investment Pipeline Program.

“This program supports the development of a strong project pipeline by enabling projects to be matured from good ideas into solid proposals. It also offers support to local councils across the entire infrastructure development life cycle.

“The fund will also build on the success of the $180 million Significant Regional Infrastructure Projects Program.

“This is delivering essential infrastructure in key regional centres in response to community needs, and providing economic opportunities and supporting 600 jobs.

“The Palaszczuk Government’s coordinated and integrated approach to planning, funding and delivering infrastructure will continue to pay dividends to Queenslanders now and into the future,” Mr Dick said.
