Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath has welcomed an order that will keep convicted child rapist Douglas Brian Jackway in jail.
Supreme Court Justice Crow has accepted the Attorney-General’s application to continue Jackway’s detention under the Dangerous Prisoners (Sexual Offenders) Act 2003.
“Queensland has the strongest and most effective regime for ensuring the community is protected from dangerous sex offenders,” Mrs D’Ath said.
“The Dangerous Prisoner (Sexual Offenders) Act (DPSOA) provides an opportunity to evaluate any continuing threat to the public when an offender reaches the end of their sentence and its value in protecting the community has been shown again in this case.
“I will continue to use the Act to protect Queenslanders from dangerous sex offenders,” she said.
Justice Crow accepted expert evidence from two psychiatrists that Jackway presented a risk of re-offending if released from detention on a supervision order and that he continued to be a serious danger to the community.
