Bundaberg students set to benefit from $6.5 million infrastructure investment

Students at Kepnock State High School are set to benefit from the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to education, with $6.5 million in building works underway.

 Assistant Education Minister Brittany Lauga MP today visited the school to inspect progress on the new multi-purpose hall and student services centre.

 “The Palaszczuk Government is committed to providing Queensland students with a world-class education,” Ms Lauga said.

 “This includes ensuring students across the state have access to high-quality facilities.

 “It’s wonderful to see students here at Kepnock State High School benefitting from our Government’s investment in education, with $6.5 million in funding for two new facilities.”
 
Ms Lauga said the projects included a $4.95 million multi-purpose hall and $1.595 million for a new student service centre.

“The new hall will include indoor, purpose-built space for sporting activities and competitions, and the new student centre will bring the full student support team together in a single professional facility,” Ms Lauga said.

“This hall is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $200 million Advancing Queensland Schools program to fast track state school infrastructure throughout Queensland.”

Kepnock State School Principal Nicholas Howkins said the entire school community is eagerly anticipating the opening of the new hall and student services centre.

“With each completed stage of renovations, the school community is beginning to understand how impressive these new facilities will be, and all the incredible opportunities that will follow for our students,” Mr Howkins said.

“With more space, our students will be able to participate in new and different school activities in health and physical education, sport and fitness.

“The impact that these facilities will have on the school community and wider Bundaberg area is incredibly exciting for us.”

Ms Lauga said the construction projects at Kepnock State High School were also supporting local jobs.

“Local Bundaberg company, Murchie Constructions Pty Ltd, has been appointed to manage the design and construction phase of these works.”

While in Bundaberg today, Ms Lauga also inspected progress on infrastructure upgrades at Walkervale State School and Bundaberg Central State School.

Bundaberg Central State School has received classroom upgrades worth $165,000 and Walkervale State School is undergoing refurbishments of more than $220,000.
