$2 million worth of high-tech fire appliances hit the streets of Nerang and Beenleigh

The Palaszczuk Government has delivered on a commitment to enhance fire and rescue services in the state’s south-east – delivering two new state-of-the-art appliances to crews at Nerang and Beenleigh.

Fire and Emergency Services Minister Craig Crawford today (Tuesday) officially handed over the Urban Rescue Tender appliances – each worth more than $870,000.

“Demonstrating an investment of more than $1.7 million from the Palaszczuk Government, the new appliances ensure enhanced fire and rescue services are provided to Beenleigh, Nerang and surrounding areas,” Mr Crawford said.

“On top of this commitment, an additional $300,000 has been invested to fit the two appliances with a thermal imaging camera, technical rescue equipment and an advanced Jaws of Life.”

Member for Gaven Meaghan Scanlon welcomed the latest additions to the fleet.

“Firefighters on the ground will have better visibility and safety at emergencies. This is especially the case with new ergonomic design changes to access and operation,” she said.

“The Inflatable Work Platform, stowage gantry allows firefighters easier access, and therefore improves response times at swift water rescue events.”

Member for Macalister Melissa McMahon said the new appliances helped ensure the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) workforce could continue the important work of protecting lives and properties in their local communities.

“Through these new resources, the Palaszczuk Government is helping future proof our fire and rescue capacity to keep pace with the growing needs of the community,” she said.

The Beenleigh Fire and Rescue Station services an area north to Springwood and south to Ormeau Hills. Since July 2017, the station has provided primary responses to 923 incidents - including road crash rescues, grass and wild fires and structural fires.

The Nerang Fire and Rescue Station services an area north to Helensvale and south to Robina. Since July 2017, the station provided primary responses to 506 incidents - including road crash rescues, grass and wild fires and structural fires.
