The Honourable Mark Bailey
Intersection upgrade? Yes we can for Marian
The Mackay Eungella Road and Marian Hampden Road intersection is set to be upgraded, thanks to Palaszczuk Government funding.
Following the successful Governing from the Regions event in Mackay, Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey announced $740,000 had been committed to the project after residents raised safety concerns about access to and from the Marian Shopping Centre.
“There have been calls from the community for traffic signals in this area and I am pleased to say this upgrade will include traffic signals along with improved signs and some resurfacing works,” Mr Bailey said.
“I was particularly concerned after hearing detailed advice from the Country Women’s Association - Pioneer Division - during our recent meeting”.
Mr Bailey said Marian was a growing area and the intersection attracted plenty of use due to the nearby shopping centre, schools, and playground.
“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to making Queensland’s roads as safe as possible,” Mr Bailey said.
The intersection upgrade will be funded under the Queensland Government’s Safer Roads Sooner program.
Construction is expected to start in the 2019-2020 financial year.
