Minister for Fire and Emergency Services
The Honourable Craig Crawford

Palaszczuk Government delivers on $4.7 million Charleville QFES commitment

Fire and Emergency Services Minister Craig Crawford today (Saturday) officially opened Charleville’s new $3 million Fire and Emergency Services facility – at the same time handing over a new $540,000 appliance.

Mr Crawford said the Palaszczuk Government boost to the region also included an additional $1.2 million to refurbish the old station and area office.

“The $3 million joint-facility will service Charleville’s Fire and Rescue Service and Rural Fire Brigade, and demonstrates the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to the region,” Mr Crawford said.

“The facility provides enhanced services to Charleville and surrounding areas, and includes a four-bay engine room, four storage sheds and a training room.

“The $1.2 million to be invested to refurbish the old Charleville Fire and Rescue Station and Area Office will include an incident control centre and public conference room.

“Work is expected to be completed this November, and having these new facilities means the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) workforce can respond to emergencies confidently and safely,” he said.

Mr Crawford said Charleville’s new $540,000 compressed air foam system (CAFS) Type 2 fire truck was fitted with the state-of-the-art technology.

“It’s equipped with the latest road crash rescue and recovery equipment, along with enhanced energy efficient emergency lighting and a thermal imaging camera,” he said.

“This equipment will provide better visibility and safety at the emergency scene and increase the vehicle’s operational capability.”

A medal ceremony also took place this morning, providing an opportunity to recognise the exceptional commitment and dedication of QFES members.

QFES Commissioner Katarina Carroll said recipients had demonstrated ethical and diligent service to the department while representing their communities with pride.

“QFES staff and volunteers provide a world-class service, and it gives me great pleasure to formally acknowledge the work and commitment they show in delivering frontline services and building resilient communities,” Ms Carroll said.
