The inspiring stories behind Queensland small businesses were in the spotlight today at the launch of Queensland Small Business Week 2018.
Minister for Employment and Small Business Shannon Fentiman officially opened the week of celebrations and events at the unique Brisbane venue, The Joinery.
The launch also included the announcement of the 100 Faces of Small Business initiative, bringing the stories of Queensland’s small businesses to centre stage.
“Small Business Week acknowledges the vital contribution small businesses make to the state’s economy, and to every community across the state,” Ms Fentiman said.
“Each small business has a story filled with passion and hard work, and their businesses are the heart and soul of our communities.
Angelo Puglisi from Ballandean Estate Wines is one of the 100 Faces. He and his family settled in the Stanthorpe district and began growing grapes in 1968.
Now, they combine wine, food and events that attract thousands of tourists a year to the Granite Belt.
“We are proud to be part of the 100 Faces of Small business initiative and also to be chosen to showcase our wine at the Small Business Week launch,” Mr Puglisi said.
Queensland Small Business Week is delivered annually by the Office of Small Business with a range of event hosts across the state to provide opportunities for small business owners to network, connect and learn new skills.
“This week is an important part of the Advancing Small Business Queensland Strategy 2016–20, and demonstrates our commitment to ensuring Queensland remains the place for small business to start, grow and employ,” Ms Fentiman said.
“There will be more than 150 events across the state and I encourage all Queensland small businesses to attend one near you.
“I’m also looking forward to the Google Digital Garage and our first Queensland Small Business Summit in Brisbane, heading to roundtables in Townsville and Gladstone, and meeting more of Queensland’s small business owners to hear the issues they face and the challenges that drive them.”
Queensland Small Business Week 2018 is presented by the Queensland Government in partnership with Australia Post, Bendigo Bank and Vodafone.
