Queensland says ‘thank you’ to our P&Cs

School communities across Queensland are today recognising the invaluable work of their hardworking parents and citizens’ associations (P&Cs).

Education Minister Grace Grace joined Youth Minister and Member for Bulimba Di Farmer at Bulimba State School for P&C Day celebrations.

“Our P&Cs are the heart and soul of our school communities,” Ms Grace said.

“P&C Day is all about acknowledging the invaluable work of these hard working volunteers, who do so much to support our schools to deliver a world-class education.

“This is a chance to stop and join with school communities across the state in saying ‘thank you’ to all our P&Cs for the positive difference they make in our schools.

“P&Cs enhance the life of Queensland schools and their communities in so many wonderful ways and I want to sincerely thank them for all their hard work.”

Ms Farmer praised members of the Bulimba State School P&C, acknowledging their outstanding contribution to the school community.

“The Bulimba State School P&C goes above and beyond for students and families, running the outside school hours care service and the Smart Bites tuckshop service,” Ms Farmer said.

“With Smart Bites being crowned winner of the 2017 Tuckshop of the Year award, this P&C definitely deserves a huge ‘thank you’ for its delicious meals and stellar work!”

Today’s event also marked the launch of the 2018 P&C of the Year awards, with P&Cs Qld President Gayle Walters and CEO Kevan Goodworth in attendance.

P&Cs Qld President Gayle Walters said the annual awards were another chance to recognise the great work undertaken by some 30,000 P&C volunteers in Queensland schools.

“While P&Cs can often be seen volunteering at events, raising money and working the many business operations such as tuckshops, uniform shops and after school care, most importantly P&Cs contribute to the social and education support systems for our children at state schools,” Ms Walters said.

“It is not surprising to learn that student wellbeing consistently ranks as one of the highest concerns for P&Cs. Working with principals, teachers and the broader school community to support state school children’s life-long learning is what consumes a large proportion of a P&C’s time.”

P&C Day is held each year in Queensland during National Volunteer Week, which celebrates the contribution of volunteers in all fields Australia-wide from 21 May.
