Increased funding for Mackay’s domestic and family violence victims

A service supporting domestic and family violence victims in Mackay will receive more than $3.2 million from the Palaszczuk Government over the next three years.

Member for Mackay Julieanne Gilbert today welcomed the funding for the Domestic Violence Resource Service.

“I know that this service provides invaluable support to women and children to help them get their lives back on track,” Mrs Gilbert said.

“In addition to counselling it supports women attending court on domestic and family violence matters.

“I am very proud to be a member of a government that places such a high priority on tackling domestic violence and its consequences.

“The Palaszczuk Government is continuing to invest in local services to provide support for people at risk and on initiatives to prevent violence in the home.

“The funding will also support the domestic and family violence High Risk Team to be established in Mackay in early 2019 where the service will operate as part of a multi-agency response to combat domestic and family violence in the region,” she said.

Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Di Farmer has called on people across the region to get involved in Domestic and Family Violence Month events during May.

“There are events happening across the state to encourage people to take a stand against domestic and family violence,” she said.

“We are committed to ending domestic and family violence and we’re working hard to do that.

“We want everyone to help spread the message of zero tolerance and to let people know violence of this kind is not okay, ever.”

On May 26 the Domestic Violence Resource Service is holding a Mackay Says NO event with high profile guests speaking out against domestic violence in the community. There will also be fun activities for children and the family to enjoy.
