Let’s innovate for thriving age-friendly Queensland communities

The Palaszczuk Government is on a mission to make our thriving communities more age-friendly, and we’re looking for your ideas to help us achieve our goal.

With the Advancing Queensland: Age-friendly community grants, we’re providing funding of $25,000 to $100,000 for innovative projects that will help make Queensland’s communities more inclusive of seniors.

Opening the grants today (May 15), Minister for Seniors Coralee O'Rourke encouraged Queenslanders to put their best projects forward and take up the challenge of creating an age-friendly community.

“This year the focus of our age-friendly grants is projects that will improve civic participation and employment, community support and health services, and respect and social inclusion for Queensland seniors,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

“I’m very keen to see our resourceful, creative Queensland communities share their big ideas and help us improve life for our seniors.

“We’ve seen some fantastic projects come to life from the first round of the grants and we look forward to the age-friendly projects Queensland communities propose this time. Total funding of $1 million is available in 2018-19.”

As one of the 12 recipients of the 2017-18 round of the Advancing Queensland: Age-friendly community grants, Tablelands Regional Council Mayor Joe Paronella knows how valuable the grants have been for their new age-friendly fitness area.

“The grant has enabled us to meaningfully engage with, and learn from, our seniors social and community groups and businesses servicing seniors,” Mr Paronella said.

“The grant funding provides community and local government organisations with additional capacity to deliver innovative, age-friendly initiatives in their communities. 

“I encourage all organisations to take advantage of this opportunity, so they can enhance services and be better positioned to service their ageing population.”

Applications for the Advancing Queensland: Age-friendly community grants close at 5pm, Monday 25 June 2018.
