Caboolture-Bribie Island Road intersections targeted for safety improvements

Design is underway to make intersections along Caboolture-Bribie Island Road safer.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said safety improvements would focus on the stretch between Kal Ma Kuta Drive and Bestmann Road (East) intersections.

“We are seeing more crashes occurring along that section of Caboolture-Bribie Island Road,” Mr Bailey said.

“Bribie Island is a popular destination for families and tourists and we are seeing higher traffic volumes on the road, especially on the weekends.”

The $755,000 safety package includes a pedestrian refuge and new lighting on Caboolture-Bribie Island Road near Kal-Ma-Kuta Drive, and road widening for a wide centre line treatment.

A U-turn facility will be added to the Bestmann Road (East) intersection to provide a safer option for motorists exiting Spinnaker Drive and travelling west to Caboolture.

A strip of vegetation on the southern side of Caboolture-Bribie Island Road will be removed to allow for improvements between Kal Ma Kuta Drive and Spinnaker Drive.

Mr Bailey said environmental stakeholders and the traditional land owners, the Kabi Kabi First Nation, would be consulted about any potential impacts from the project.

Works are expected to start towards the end of this year.

The project is funded under the State Government’s Targeted Road Safety Program.
