Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services
The Honourable Steven Miles

What is Deb Frecklington's plan?

The LNP’s continued attack on Queensland Public Servants is proof that Deb Frecklington would embark on Campbell Newman style public service sackings, Health Minister Steven Miles said today.

“Deb Frecklington was Campbell Newman’s assistant treasurer, so she would have been part of Campbell Newman’s plan to sack 14,000 public servants,” Mr Miles said.

“We’ve replaced those doctors, nurses, health practitioners, teachers, police and other frontline workers and we’re keeping pace with population growth.

“96% of the senior appointments to Queensland Health are doctors, nurses and health practitioners like physiotherapists.

“We know the LNP thought we had too many doctors and nurses when Deb Frecklington was Campbell Newman’s assistant treasurer. Is she seriously suggesting we have too many frontline services in our hospitals?

“I understand Deb Frecklington is in Oakey today, perhaps while she’s there she can tell the community how many of the 269 extra doctors and nurses she would like to sack?

“If Deb Frecklington thinks we should be doing more with less, how many public servants would she sack? Which communities would have fewer doctors, police and teachers? And how would she ensure adequate delivery of the services Queenslanders expect?”
