Burdekin boat ramp better to chase barra
Burdekin barramundi will be swimming for their lives with $1 million worth of work now complete at the Barramundi Creek boat ramp.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the popular boat ramp was upgraded to provide safer all-tide launching for boats and would assist with loading and disembarking of passengers.
“Works included an overhaul of the existing two-lane boat ramp, with the resurfacing and widening of the ramp lanes to four metres,” Mr Bailey said.
‘‘A new 2.5-metre wide floating walkway on the downstream side was also installed.
“We appreciate the boating community’s patience with this project which experienced some delays due to wet weather.
‘‘Locals can be assured the upgraded facility will provide greatly improved boating and fishing opportunities for many years to come.’’
Funding for the project was provided from the Queensland Government’s Marine Infrastructure Fund and Marine Infrastructure Investment Program.
Potential new or upgraded facilities are identified through a project proposal process in conjunction with councils and port and water authorities partnered with the department to provide of boating facilities.
Proposals are regularly sought from these agencies and proposals are considered when developing the Marine Infrastructure Investment Program each year.
