Queensland jumps into Youth Week celebrations
Queenslanders are encouraged to jump into the state’s first Youth Week and celebrate the enormous contributions young people make to the state.
Minister for Youth Di Farmer said this year marked the first time Queensland will host its own youth week, from 6 to 15 April 2018.
“This is an exciting time for Queensland as we celebrate our young people during the inaugural Queensland Youth Week,” she said.
“The theme this year ‘Jump in. Make a splash’ is all about getting our young people to voice their opinions, and get out there and make a difference.
“This week is an opportunity for all of us to celebrate the many and varied contributions of young people to our society – culturally, socially and economically.
“Right across the state we will see a range of activities and celebrations taking place and I would strongly encourage everyone to find out what’s happening near them and get involved.”
Social media influencers will be helping us to spread the word of Queensland Youth Week, so keep an eye out for important messages from Elly Awesome, Miller Wilson and others who will be helping us reach out to an audience of more than 1 million.
As part of Queensland’s inaugural Youth Week, Ms Farmer said a safe online space had been developed so young people can connect directly with the State Government and their own peers.
“The Queensland Youth Engagement Hub is an online tool that young people can use to have their say on what matters most to them,” she said.
Ms Farmer said as part of the week the Queensland Government would be promoting ways to tackle cyberbullying.
“We know cyberbullying has devastating effects on young lives and on families,” she said.
“I’m really proud to be part of a government committed to tackling cyberbullying head on.”
Queensland’s Youth Week is aimed at young people aged 12 to 25.
