JOINT STATEMENT
Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Mark Bailey
Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy
The Honourable Dr Anthony Lynham
Vale Terry Effeney
We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing yesterday of an outstanding contributor to the Queensland and national electricity industry, its people and its customers, Terry Effeney.
Mr Effeney spent almost 40 years in the energy industry, combining an engineering and economics background with extensive operational management experience.
Most recently, he chaired the State Government’s Queensland Energy Security Taskforce and was a panel member with Australia’s Chief Scientist on the Independent Review into the Future Security of the National Electricity Market, the Finkel Review.
He was also a recent Chair of the Electricity Network Association, the peak national body representing gas distribution and electricity transmission and distribution businesses throughout Australia.
Terry was the Chief Executive Officer of Energex for almost a decade from January 2007. Before joining Energex, he was the Chief Operating Officer of Ergon Energy, and an executive manager with Ergon Energy and its predecessor organisations for more than ten years.
Terry was the Interim Chief Executive Officer of Energy Queensland in July 2016 and led the merger of government-owned corporations Ergon Energy and Energex until the permanent CEO was appointed.
Terry was always fiercely committed to the safety and welfare of Energy Queensland’s 7500 employees.
In every weather crisis and natural disaster the networks faced, he led from the front.
We would like to acknowledge Terry’s outstanding contribution to Queensland’s electricity industry, its communities, and its people. He leaves a lasting legacy.
