Ask for Queensland seafood this Easter

Fisheries Minister Mark Furner is encouraging seafood lovers to choose Queensland seafood this Easter.

Minister Furner today launched the Queensland Seafood campaign at South Bank and said there were plenty of reasons why Queenslanders should buy and enjoy our state’s best seafood.

“Queensland seafood is fresh, healthy and most importantly delicious and is among the best in the world,” he said.

“We’ve got it all right here, whether it be the best crabs, prawns, fish, or bugs, you name it we’ve got it.

“Our seafood industry is vibrant and strong, injecting over $200 million dollars into the Queensland economy from primary production alone and directly employing more than 1 500 people each year, as well as over 1 200 people in associated industries such as onshore processors.”

“Buying local produce benefits everyone, it’s fresh and delicious, local businesses profit and create more jobs, and professional fishers can continue to support their families.”

The Queensland Seafood Campaign follows the success of the Buy Local Seafood campaign that ran in 2017 and will again feature Broncos and Origin legend Sam Thaiday.

The Queensland Government has worked with the Queensland Seafood Industry Association, the Moreton Bay Seafood Industry Association and the Queensland Seafood Marketers Association to deliver this campaign.

Moreton Bay Seafood Industry Association Vice President Michael Wood said we are lucky to have some of the most amazing seafood available right here on our doorstep, caught in our beautiful pristine waters.

“Commercial fishermen are hardworking and we love what we do. We work day and night to catch and collect the best seafood Queensland has on offer,” Mr Wood said.

“We’ve been working around the clock to make sure all the shops are stocked full of Queensland seafood this Easter.

“Like any produce, the fresher it is, the better it tastes. So make sure you ask for Queensland seafood.”
