The Honourable Craig Crawford

The new Bracken Ridge Fire and Rescue Station will soon be a reality with construction of the $6 million facility expected to get underway in coming months.

Representing Fire and Emergency Services Minister Craig Crawford, Local Government, Racing and Multicultural Affairs Minister, and Member for Sandgate Stirling Hinchliffe today (Tuesday) unveiled public signage for the new station.

Mr Hinchliffe said the new station would cover the same area currently serviced by the Sandgate Fire Station.

“I have every faith QFES crews will continue their brilliant work and uphold a high level of service to the community,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“It will bolster operations in the area and ensure QFES crews continue to be ready to respond to any situation.”

Mr Crawford said the new station will be a “great asset for the local community”.

“Locals will notice land clearing trucks on this site as early as next month before builders begin construction early in the 2018-2019 financial year, before the station becomes operational late next year,” Mr Crawford said.

Assistant Commissioner for Brisbane Region Neil Gallant said improved facilities would enhance operational capability and allow specialist crews to be based at the station.

“The new station will be located close to main roads and the motorway which will allow crews to respond quickly in an emergency,” said Mr Gallant.

“In addition to the three-bay fire and rescue station, the improved building will allow Brisbane Region technical rescue personnel to manage operations, train, store, maintain and repair their specialised equipment on site.”
