Improved signage to increase cyclist safety on Currumbin Creek Road

Cyclist safety along Currumbin Creek Road will improve with more signs being installed reminding motorists and cyclists to share the road.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey said the Palaszczuk Government was committed to improving road safety as cycling continues to grow in popularity.

‘‘The fact is we’re seeing more cyclists on Gold Coast roads, including on Currumbin Creek Road,’’ Mr Bailey said.

“These additional ‘share the road’ signs will complement the cyclist signage already in place and will serve as a reminder to all road users to look out for one another and give a one-metre gap when passing cyclists.’’

Mr Bailey said it was important for all road users to remember motorists and cyclists had the same rights and responsibilities.

‘‘Cyclists are legitimate road users and have the right to be treated with courtesy and care by other road users,’’ Mr Bailey said.

“All road users are encouraged to take the necessary time to overtake safely so everyone can share and enjoy Currumbin Creek Road.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to the ongoing education of road users through our Join the Drive campaign.

“Our recent Safer Roads Safer Queensland forum had a particular focus on vulnerable road users – including cyclists – and we will continue to work with representatives of all road users to improve safety on Queensland roads.

‘‘Last year we released the Queensland Cycling Strategy 2017-2027, which includes a two-year action plan to support those who ride and those who want to ride.’’
