A flash $3 million makeover for the Queen Street bus station has been completed in time for the Commonwealth Games.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the project was part of the Palaszczuk Government's commitment to improving Queensland’s public transport network, and ensuring investment for the Commonwealth Games led to a lasting infrastructure legacy.
“Queen Street bus station is a vitally important hub in the South East Queensland transport network, and I’m proud to be part of a government that has championed this project,” Mr Bailey said.
“These upgrades will improve the travel experience for the 80,000 passengers who pass through Queen Street bus station every week, while also presenting one of Brisbane’s premier bus stations in the best possible light ahead of the GC2018, given events in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
“The refurbishment has addressed several aesthetic and access issues, including upgrades to ceilings, floors, walls, seating and bus boarding points, stairs, handrails and lighting to provide a brighter, more accessible facility, and a modern look and feel.”
Member for McConnel Grace Grace said a comfortable journey was vital for the thousands of locals and visitors traveling to Brisbane’s vibrant and bustling CBD each day.
“The Palaszczuk Government wants to ensure people heading in and out of Brisbane’s busy CBD have a fantastic journey and this project has delivered that,” she said.
“The refurbishment will provide an incentive for people to switch from private vehicles to public transport, which will reduce congestion on our inner-city road network.
“This is great news for commuters across our community and I’m delighted with the new-look station, which will add to the infrastructure legacy created by the Palaszczuk Government for the games.”
