New $1 million Glass House Mountains District Park officially opened

Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe today officially opened a new $1 million park that celebrates the unique natural beauty of the Glass House Mountains on the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
 
Mr Hinchliffe was joined by Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson at the opening of the park, partly funded by a $400,000 contribution from the Palaszczuk Government’s Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.

“This eight-hectare park in this spectacular natural setting is a great example of why the Palaszczuk Government supports councils and communities to provide great places for residents to come together,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“The park features a BBQ shelter, places to sit and rest, picnic areas, a playground, dog off leash area, amenities building, viewing areas to overlook existing lakes and waterways and Mount Tibrogargan.

“Future stages of the park will include new pathways and trail network, park entry node and structure, additional playground equipment, shelter, picnic table and seats, park seats, and additional landscaping. 

“We’re pleased to have contributed $400,000 to this project, supporting 10 local jobs and helping to stimulate the local economy.”
 
Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson said the community master planned park would provide a spacious, safe and enjoyable recreation area for the local community and visitors.

“This is a park designed by the community that protects the natural assets of the park along with creating a destination for visitors to enjoy,” Mayor Jamieson said.
 
“It will help to secure the Glass House Mountains District Park’s reputation as a go-to hinterland hub for leisure and recreation.
 
“Having more people coming to this part of the Sunshine Coast is good news for the local economy along with the great health and well-being outcomes from being outdoors in our wonderful region.”
 
Sunshine Coast Council also contributed $600,000 towards the project.
