$22 million in funding for councils to boost infrastructure projects

The Palaszczuk Government is calling on councils to apply for a share of $22 million in funding to support their infrastructure planning, under the Maturing the Infrastructure Pipeline Program.

In announcing the funding for phase two of this successful program, Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick encouraged councils to apply and to move their projects forward and into the infrastructure pipeline.

“This next release of the program supports local governments by funding strategic planning, the preparation of business cases and the detailed design of their local infrastructure projects,” he said.

“Assisting our local governments to move their infrastructure projects forward and closer to being shovel-ready is vital for stimulating the local economy and creating jobs.

“We’re enabling councils to build capability and develop projects through to the next stages of the infrastructure pipeline.

“The initial phase of the program received great feedback, and helped councils to move their projects forward, driving growth and local jobs.”

Local Government Association of Queensland chief executive Greg Hallam said investment in infrastructure is essential for strong regional economies.

“The Maturing the Infrastructure Pipeline Program also helps to ensure councils move forward with the right infrastructure projects at the right time,” he said.

“We encourage councils to apply for funding to get their projects up and running.”

“Making informed investment decisions early on contributes to the long-term financial sustainability of Queensland’s local governments,” he said.

“We’re continuing the Palaszczuk Government’s track record of providing vital support to councils across the entire infrastructure development life cycle.”

Applications open on Monday 12 March at 12 noon and close on Monday 9 April at 12 noon.
