Works for Queensland program funds $981,000 Tom Jeffery Park upgrade

Agnes Water residents and visitors can now enjoy a new-look Tom Jeffery Memorial Park, thanks to a $981,000 redevelopment made possible through the Palaszczuk Government’s $400 million Works for Queensland program.
 
Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe applauded Gladstone Regional Council for its initiative in making the project a reality.
 
“Communities across Queensland need places like Tom Jeffery Memorial Park, so it’s important to make sure they are not only maintained but rejuvenated,” Mr Hinchliffe said.
 
“The upgrades done here mean that not only today’s kids will enjoy these facilities but they will be able to bring their own children here one day.

“These are the kinds of liveability projects we are seeing Works for Queensland deliver throughout the state.”
 
State member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said:
 
“Importantly, council estimated this project would create or support 11 local jobs.

“The upgrades at Tom Jeffery Park include a new amenities block and upgrades to the playground and landscaping, carpark, seating, shelters and BBQs.

“Part of the refurbishment was to provide more storage and first aid room for Surf Life Saving Queensland.

“Any improvements which can help make the job of our Surf Life Savers any easier is a massive win for the community in terms of safety.”

Across the 2016-17 and 2017-19 Works for Queensland program, Gladstone has been allocated almost $12 million to fund 13 projects which council estimated would support or create around 108 local jobs.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the Works for Queensland program is making a real difference to the community.

“It’s great to see Tom Jeffery Memorial Park upgraded to cater for current and future generations of Agnes Water residents as well as improving the facilities for tourists and the local Surf Lifesaving Club,” Cr Burnett said.
 
“Works for Queensland is helping council deliver these types of important infrastructure projects right across the Gladstone Region.”

By way of an election commitment, the Palaszczuk Government has committed to a third $200 million funding round to extend the program until 2020-21.

The Works for Queensland program serves double duty – creating, supporting or sustaining jobs as well as supporting councils undertake maintenance and minor infrastructure.
