Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Mark Bailey
Palaszczuk Government invests more than $1 million making Albany Creek intersection safer
Community safety concerns have been addressed with a $1.1 million upgrade to The Old Northern Road intersection with Explorer Drive in Albany Creek.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the Palaszczuk Government had committed funding to this project in response to community feedback.
“I understand the community’s concerns about safety at this busy intersection, and have asked my department to progress detailed design and construction work,” Mr Bailey said.
“Traffic signals will be installed to enhance safety, improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
“This will include a fully controlled right-turn movement from Explorer Drive onto Old Northern Road, which I know is of great concern to the community.”
Mr Bailey said locally based engineering firm, WSP, was awarded the design and construction contract.
“The focus of the design is to address the growing trend of crashes at the intersection in consultation with Moreton Bay Regional Council and other key stakeholders,” he said.
“Other safety treatments may also be considered as part of the detailed design process.
“Further details will be provided to the local community once design work is completed.”
Mr Bailey said surveying works and geotechnical and pavement investigations would be undertaken over coming months to assist in the design process.
“Road users may notice roadworkers and construction vehicles on site over the next couple of months before construction starts,” he said.
“Design is expected to be finalised in the next couple of months, with construction activities to follow soon after, weather permitting.
“The project is funded under the Palaszczuk Government’s Targeted Road Safety Program.
“This program aims to improve road safety and focuses on implementing high-benefit, cost-effective solutions to prevent crashes and incidents on Queensland roads.”
