Sex offenders to remain in jail
Two serious child sex offenders will remain in prison at the recommendation of the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath.
Edward Pollentine and Joseph Butler were being held indefinitely at Her Majesty’s Pleasure.
The Prisoners Legal Service has unsuccessfully applied for their release, and they will remain in jail under section 18 (5) (b) of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1945.
On psychiatric advice, Pollentine has been detained since 1984 after a series of violent offences against children.
On psychiatric advice, Butler has been detained since June 1970.
