Two-day Cabinet meeting to focus on election commitment delivery, Games

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will convene a two-day Cabinet meeting on the Gold Coast from tomorrow to focus on delivery of its 2017 election commitments and an update on the Commonwealth Games to be hosted on the Gold Coast in April.

“The Government I lead will always put Queenslanders first, and that means delivering the commitments and keeping the promises we made to the people of Queensland,” she said.

“We have worked hard to repair the damage of the LNP Government and by any measure – employment growth, export growth, and business confidence - Queensland is a much better place than it was in 2015.”

“Queensland has a government that works for them not against them.”

The Premier said Cabinet today was updated that 512 – or 92.5% - of the 553 commitments made to the people of Queensland at the 2015 election had been delivered, another 25 of those commitments were added to more than 490 promised actions from the last election.

"We are focussed on delivering for Queenslanders.  We presented a comprehensive program to continue to create new jobs and new opportunities for Queensland, and deliver the services and support Queenslanders need,” she said.

“The Cabinet is focussed on delivering good government and delivering on our priorities of jobs, health and education.”

The Premier said the two-day Cabinet meeting on the Gold Coast would focus on the Government’s program to deliver on its election commitments and an update on the Commonwealth Games – Queensland’s largest event.”

“Over the next two days, my Ministers and I will ensure we continue to have a laser-like focus on our commitments to Queenslanders.”

The Premier said the Government’s 2017 State election policies will support more than 60,000 jobs including:

-   3700 more teachers, 3500 nurses and midwives, 535 police and 100 firefighters to continue to serve and protect our great State;

-  build 10 new schools, plan for another seven and upgrade 17 secondary schools, refurbish TAFEs and continue to invest in health infrastructure, including expansions of hospitals at Logan, Caboolture and Ipswich;

-  extend job-generation and skills development programs, including Back to Work, Skilling Queenslanders for Work and Works for Queensland

-  deliver record infrastructure spending, including the upgrading the M1, delivering Cross River Rail and upgrades to the Bruce Highway; and

-  new investments in key industries, including tourism, agriculture and renewable energy.
