Queensland’s vibrant film festival landscape will deliver quality cinema in 2018-19 with applications now open for Screen Culture funding, announced Queensland Premier and Minister for Trade Annastacia Palaszczuk.

“The Queensland government, through Screen Queensland, funds festivals and events throughout the state showcasing an array of films and filmmaking,” the Premier said.

"Screen Culture round 1 funding is open to festivals and events taking place between 1 July to 30 December 2018.

“Multi-year funding is available to festivals taking place in 2018-19 with attendances above 10,000 and up to $25,000 is available for touring festivals visiting more than six regional centres.

“Communities take pride in their film festivals with annual events such as the Gold Coast Film Festival, the Noosa International Film Festival, Vision Splendid in Winton and Port Shorts in Port Douglas attracting locals and tourists alike.

“Screen Culture funding of $1.05 million for 2017–18 is supporting 36 film events and I expect the take-up will be just as strong for next financial year," the Premier said.

Funding is competitive and to ensure a broad range of events are supported, funding is capped for projects of cultural significance and touring film festivals. Grants offered to successful applicants for other festivals will generally be in the range of $2,000 and $8,000.
