Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Mark Bailey
More than $8 million in Palaszczuk Government funding will be spent rehabilitating two sections of road in the South Burnett, providing safer journeys for motorists.
The works are set to take place on a total of almost 10 kilometres on Chinchilla-Wondai Rd and Mundubbera-Durong Rd, with designs now underway.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the rehabilitation works were a win for both locals and visitors to the South Burnett.
“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to making our state’s roads as safe as possible, and these works will do that by stabilising and strengthening the network,” Mr Bailey said.
“The works will also improve the longevity of the roads, and reduce future maintenance costs.
“On Mundubbera–Durong Road, staged rehabilitation will take place on a 6.8- kilometre section from Chinchilla–Wondai Road to just north of Shellytop Road intersection.
“On Chinchilla–Wondai Road, a 480-metre section through the Durong township will be rehabilitated along with a 2.395-kilometre section near Darr Creek.
“B-double regularly travel on both roads so rehabilitating them will ensure they are capable of handling heavier traffic well into the future.”
Mr Bailey said works would progressively take place from March and were expected to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.
“RoadTek will deliver the works, which will be carried out between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Friday,” he said.
“Traffic controllers, temporary detours, single-lane closures and speed restrictions will be in place to complete the works safely and efficiently.
“I want to thank motorists for their patience during this time.”
Mr Bailey said detailed design was also being completed for other potential upgrades along Mundubbera–Durong Road.
“Design is underway to widen a single-lane section of Mundubbera–Durong Road between the council boundary and Proston–Boondooma Road,” he said.
“Further north, design is also being completed to replace the John Peterson Bridge at the Boyne River near Mundubbera.
“This design work will ensure my department is in the best possible position to progress these projects when funding becomes available.”

This funding is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP) 2017-18 to 2020-21 which will deliver close to $21 billion of investment over the next four years which will also support nearly 17,000 direct jobs over the life of the program.
