Statement from the Attorney-General re Heidi Strbak sentence

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice
The Honourable Yvette D'Ath

"I know we have all been distressed by what happened to Tyrell Cobb.

After Heidi Strbak received a nine year sentence for his manslaughter, I asked the Director of Public Prosecutions to review the case to see if there were any legal grounds for appeal.

As a result of that thorough review, the DPP advised against appealing.

I have followed their advice and will not appeal the sentence.

Presumably Ms Frecklington does not hold the DPP in high regard.  I, however, do value their considered advice, which always takes in all the evidence to hand.

It’s also important to remember that any appeal always comes with the risk that a sentence can be reduced."
