Skilling Queenslanders for jobs, jobs, jobs

The Palaszczuk Government will assist a further 4,881 Queenslanders into jobs thanks to the successful Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.

Minister for Training and Skills Development Shannon Fentiman at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast today, announced $30.66 million had been awarded to 161 projects through the latest round of Skilling Queenslanders for Work funding.

“This program gives people who have struggled to find a job the skills and training they need to find work and build a successful career,” Ms Fentiman said.

“Improving job prospects for Queenslanders will boost the local economy and help businesses to grow.”

“Our investment in programs like this is a practical example of the Palaszczuk Government’s focus on jobs for Queenslanders, with more than 13,000 people finding jobs thanks to the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.”

‘We worked closely with business and industry to create more than 130,000 jobs in our first term in office – an average of 130 new jobs every day.”

“It’s wonderful that the Preston Campbell Foundation have received an additional $135,800 under the latest round of Skilling Queenslanders for Work to support a further 38 Queenslanders to gain the skills they need to get a job in our fast growing hospitality, tourism and retail industry.

“The Community Work Skills program here at Presto’s Training Cafe is one of 16 projects to share in almost $1.8 million in funding for the Gold Coast, supporting up to 521 people to gain the skills they need to get into work.”

The organisations develop a personalised training and support plan for each trainee that can include additional language, literacy and numeracy training, job readiness activities such as resume writing, interview preparation and workplace understanding, and other strategies so each person can work towards overcoming the barriers they face.

“Since Skilling Queenslanders for Work was reinstated by the Palaszczuk Government in 2015 after it was cut under the LNP over $188.8 million has been committed to 1,103 community based projects, providing training programs to more than 25,000 Queenslanders,” Ms Fentiman said.

Skilling Queenslanders for Work funds skills development, training and job opportunities for unemployed, disengaged or disadvantaged Queenslanders through a suite of targeted skills and training programs.
