The Palaszczuk Government has announced $701,000 in grants to help celebrate 113 multicultural events throughout Queensland in 2018.
Multicultural Affairs Minister Stirling Hinchliffe today congratulated the successful recipients of the events round of the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland (CMQ) grants program.
“I am proud to be the new Multicultural Affairs Minister,” Mr Hinchliffe said. “Queensland’s a great multicultural success story and I’m looking forward to getting out there and celebrating the State’s diversity in 2018.
“From Mareeba to the Gold Coast, these grants will help Queenslanders to come together to celebrate our state’s great cultural diversity.
“Community fairs, multicultural festivals, women’s day celebrations and youth carnivals are just some of the events these grants are funding - there really is something for everyone.”
Mr Hinchliffe said the CMQ program included a further $300,000 in funding for multicultural projects in 2018, with applications to open shortly.
“And there’s even more good news in the years ahead, with current funding for multicultural event and project grants through the CMQ program set to double from next year,” he said.
“This means $6 million will be available for multicultural events and projects over three years from 2018-19, delivering on a key election commitment of the Palaszczuk Government.
“Queenslanders come from more than 200 different cultural backgrounds, speak more than 220 languages and follow over 100 faiths.
“That’s something we should all be proud of and celebrate, and I encourage all Queenslanders to keep an eye out on the 2018 multicultural events calendar and go and support an event near you.”
