Charlotte and Oliver take the crown for Queensland’s most popular baby names in 2017

Charlotte and Oliver have remained Queensland’s most popular baby names, while names such as Harper, Ivy, Hudson and Henry are becoming more popular.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath said the most popular baby name lodged through the Queensland Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in 2017 was Charlotte for girls, and Oliver for boys.
“This is consistent with 2015 and 2016,” Mrs D’Ath said.
“However, there has been a slight change in the top 10 names. Hudson, James and Henry have emerged in the top 10 names for boys, while Harper and Ivy joined the top 10 for girls.”
Mrs D’Ath said it was interesting that Charlotte and Oliver were also the most popular names given to babies in 2015 and 2016.
“Princess Charlotte of Cambridge was born in May 2015, so this could be a sign that her name is continuing to be a popular choice.
“It is always interesting to see the change in trends when it comes to baby names.
“For example, the names James and Henry were among the top 10 in 2015, and dropped off the top 10 list in 2016, but appeared amongst the most popular again in 2017.
“I must admit, I was also pleased to hear there were two babies named Yvette in 2017.
“It will be interesting to see where the baby name trends take us in 2018.”
