The Honourable Mark Bailey

Festivities have commenced for Driver Reviver volunteers, who are coming together across the state to celebrate over 25 years of keeping drivers safe and alert in Queensland.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey, whose responsibilities include road safety, said several more community celebration events will be held to mark the Driver Reviver anniversaries through the holiday period and in the early months of next year.

“We have more than 2300 volunteers across Queensland who run 33 Driver Reviver sites during school holidays and public holidays, and around half of these locations have been operating for 25 years or more. ” Mr Bailey said.

“This occasion offers a great opportunity to thank our volunteers for sharing their valuable time and for their efforts to keep motorists safe.

“It is thanks to the hard work and dedication of volunteers in our Queensland communities that this program has been able to continue for the benefit of all drivers and their families.”

Mr Bailey said the Driver Reviver initiative played an important role in promoting safer driving habits for long distance drivers, and helped motorists arrive safely at their destinations.

“Many people will be hitting the road this festive season, and we encourage motorists to join in the celebrations by visiting a Driver Reviver site,” he said.

“If you are planning a long trip, allow for some extra travel time to pull over at a Driver Reviver site, and help make sure you get to your destination safely.

“Fatigue is a major cause of road incidents, so it is important to take a break when you are tired.

“The message is simple: Stop, Revive and Survive.”

Local Driver Reviver anniversary celebrations have already commenced, with more events planned at various locations through the holidays and in early 2018.

The Driver Reviver program is nationally supported by Arnott’s, Bushells Tea and Toll Group.

Anyone interested in volunteering to staff a Driver Reviver site is encouraged to contact a local road safety advisor.
