New funding contract secures the future of Gold Coast services
The future of a number of Gold Coast community services have been secured, with nine local organisations locking in Queensland Government funding for the next five years.
Minister for Communities, Women and Youth, Minister for Child Safety and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Shannon Fentiman said Domestic and Family Violence services such as Centacare and the Domestic Violence Prevention Centre would receive thousands of dollars in funding per annum over five years.
Family support services are also a top priority for the Palaszczuk Government with Kalwun Family Wellbeing Service and Act for Kids to receive a large funding boost.
“Kalwun is a vital organisation that runs an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Integrated Family Wellbeing Service to support families to achieve improvements in safety, life skills and assist in keeping families safely together at home,” Ms Fentiman said.
“I am thrilled that the Palaszczuk Government has been able to secure over $23 million in funding for essential organisations on the Gold Coast to assist them in providing certainty for their service delivery,
“It will also provide stability for their hardworking staff and enable them to attract and retain staff into the future,” she said.
“This funding is a positive boost for the region and will make a real difference to the Gold Coast community.
“In addition to assistance for families, the funding will also target domestic and sexual violence services, offering free information, support and counselling for people experiencing domestic violence.”
The Palaszczuk Government has signed five-year contracts with 117 organisations across the state, locking in $387 million in funding for frontline community services.
The previous LNP government cut more than $63 million from community organisations.
