The Honourable Shannon Fentiman
Nicholls must put One Nation last to protect Queensland children
Queensland children will be at serious risk of harm if Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls fails to put One Nation last on every LNP how-to-vote card at the upcoming State Election.
Child Safety Minister Shannon Fentiman demanded the pledge in a letter to the LNP leader after the release of One Nation’s disgusting, dangerous and ill-informed domestic and family violence policy.
“Unless the LNP puts One Nation last the safety of women and children are at risk,” Ms Fentiman said.
“Mr Nicholls must take decisive action to ensure the safety of Queensland women and children and place One Nation candidates last on LNP how-to-vote cards in every electorate.”
Mr Fentiman said with LNP shadow minister Ros Bates backing her strong stand against One Nation’s outrageous policy, it was past time the LNP cast One Nation to the political wilderness.
“No one should be allowed to take Queensland backwards when it comes to holding perpetrators of violence to account and working to change the underlying attitudes and behaviours that feed the cycle of violence,” she said.
“I have urged the LNP leader to take the same decisive action as Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has taken and urgently sign a statutory declaration committing to putting One Nation last and ruling out any deals with One Nation.”
Ms Fentiman condemned the vile threats that had been made against Ms Bates in the wake of her bipartisan opposition to One Nation’s domestic violence policy.
“This cannot be tolerated in any way,” Ms Fentiman said.
