The Victoria Point Magic Football Club are a step closer to finding a permanent home, with a $103,600 kick start from the Queensland Government’s Get Playing Places and Spaces grants program.

Making the announcement today at Donald Road Sports Field, Minister for Sport Mick de Brenni said the grant would be a welcome boost for the club, which is currently looking for a permanent home base.

“A soccer club is not just about running around kicking goals, it’s also about community,” Mr de Brenni said.

“A clubhouse provides a focal point for the club, both for social activities and to store equipment.

“So I’m really pleased to announce that the Palaszczuk Government has set aside more than $100,000 to help Victoria Point Magic build their home base.

“The final piece of the puzzle will need to come from Council – we’ll fund the clubhouse, but Council needs to provide the land.

“This needs to be a team effort.”

Mr de Brenni said a total of 129 sport and recreation infrastructure projects across Queensland would share in more than $15 million worth of funding under this round of the Get Playing Places and Spaces program.

“There was enormous interest from sport and active recreation clubs and eligible local governments across Queensland under this funding round,” Mr de Brenni said.

“In total, we received more than 580 applications for funding which is an overwhelming response.

“We know that getting involved in regular, organised sport offers incredible opportunities for Queenslanders to become more connected with their communities.

“That’s why the Palaszczuk Government has committed more than $125 million to the Get in the Game suite of initiatives over the next three years to support grassroots sport and active recreation.

"I'm looking forward to announcing more successful recipients over the coming days.”

Mr de Brenni said Get Playing Places and Spaces provides funding of up to $150,000 to develop new, upgraded or replacement sport and recreation infrastructure.

“This program is the Queensland Government’s successful Get in the Game initiative to support grassroots sport and recreation, now worth more than $125.5 million,” he said.
