The Honourable Kate Jones
Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones today welcomed Brisbane Airport Corporation as the newest sponsor of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Ms Jones said all eyes would be on Brisbane Airport when the Queen’s Baton arrives in exactly 100 days.
“We’ve reached another major milestone with 200 days to go and excitement is building as we head closer towards the biggest sporting event in Australia this decade,” she said.
“I’m delighted to welcome Brisbane Airport Corporation as our newest Games sponsor.
“Brisbane Airport is one of Queensland’s most successful and iconic transport hubs and tourism brands.
“To have them on board as a sponsor is a strong vote of confidence in GC2018.
“In 100 days – on Christmas Eve – the Queen’s Baton will touch down at Brisbane Airport where it will embark on a 100-day journey, visiting every State and Territory, on its way to the Opening Ceremony on 4 April next year.
“The Queen’s Baton relay is generating a lot of interest and excitement in the Games as it makes its way around the Commonwealth.”
Brisbane Airport Corporation Acting CEO Stephen Goodwin said the corporation’s support for the tourism industry in Queensland, partnership in major events and role as the primary international gateway for visitors is a role the BAC takes seriously.
“We recognise that Brisbane Airport is often the first and last impression of our city and state for international visitors and that’s why we’ve put an incredible amount of effort into improving the traveller experience at the airport,” Mr Goodwin said.
