Public housing project for Maroochydore on schedule

Construction of a new $4.6 million, 16 unit complex at Kenewin Avenue in Maroochydore is on track for completion early next year.

Queensland Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said this project is part of a broad state wide initiative to provide more social housing for Queenslanders.

“Under our new $1.8 billion Housing Strategy, there will be 243 new homes built on the Sunshine Coast over the next five years,” he said.

“Thousands of tradies will be inducted onto construction sites across the Sunny Coast as a result of our investment.

“This Maroochydore construction is a sign of things to come offering brand new modern accommodation for seniors and people with a disability, as well as providing jobs for between 70-80 skilled workers.”

Minister for Local Government, Mark Furner visited the site today and said it demonstrated the Palaszczuk Government’s new $1.8 billion Queensland Housing Strategy was putting jobs and people first.

“In just about every region I visit as the Minister for Local Government, residents tell me they want investment in jobs and investment in the vulnerable members of their community,” Mr Furner said.

“The Palaszczuk Government’s new $1.8 billion Queensland Housing Strategy delivers on both.

“This three-storey Maroochydore development is designed for Queenslanders needing assistance with mobility, and incorporates a lift and undercover parking.

“Fourteen units are built to Platinum or Gold standards for accessibility to ensure local seniors have the opportunity to continue to enjoy the lifestyle and important services the Sunshine Coast offers.

“And, it’s supporting jobs for local tradies and their suppliers.”

Construction is currently 30 percent complete and is on track for the first residents to move in during early 2018.
