Works to boost safety start at Burnett Highway intersection

Motorists are set to experience improved safety at the notorious Burnett Highway and Murgon-Gayndah Road intersection thanks to vital upgrade works.

Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said the $297,000 Safer Roads Sooner project would make turning at the intersection much safer for motorists.

“The intersection currently has a combined lane for motorists travelling straight through the intersection and those turning right from the Burnett Highway,” Mr Bailey said.

“This upgrade will separate the through and turning traffic, and provide motorists with a dedicated turn lane to allow them to safely turn right into the Murgon-Gayndah Road.”

Mr Bailey said while motorists would experience some minor delays while work was underway, the improvements would make it worthwhile in the long run.

Works will generally be carried out between 6am and 6pm from Monday to Friday and should be finished by mid-year, weather permitting.

“Motorists are reminded to observe all warning signage when driving through the roadworks and be aware of changed conditions, including reduced speed limits, traffic controllers and single-lane closures,” Mr Bailey said.

“Motorists should also check QLDTraffic.qld.gov.au for updates and plan additional travel time for their journey.

“We thank the community for their patience while these important safety upgrades are delivered.”

The project is funded under the Palaszczuk Government’s Safer Roads Sooner program, which aims to address high severity crash sites on state-controlled roads.
